In His Own Words...
I have been employed at Sau Bay Resort for over five years. During my employment, I have advanced through Divemaster and boat captain, and have gained a thorough understanding of the local reef and marine environment. My passion for diving and marine life has driven me to become a better diver. I feel that my experience and skillset would be upgraded by becoming a PADI instructor. I will be able to share my passion and knowledge of diving with future generations in the waters I grew up. I believe in having fun, while being safe and practicing conservation. I would like very much to pass my appreciation and respect for the marine environment on to others who may not have been as fortunate as I have been to grow up somewhere like Fiji and the Rainbow Reef. With increasing numbers of divers on the Rainbow Reef, I feel that I can play an important role in coral reef conservation by teaching PADI conservation specialty courses such as Dive Against Debris (DAD).
The Opportunity
Lotu lives in a very remote part of Fiji, next to Sau Bay Resort & Spa - We are located in the northern portion of Vanua Levu known as the Caukadrove province. There are very few instructors in our area, so becoming an instructor would be a huge benefit for him, as he has a wife and three young children to support. Lotu grew up on the Rainbow Reef, and is one of the best divemasters. He is conscientious, hard working, fit, safety-conscious and is always showing guests the cool creatures of the reef. He has been working on improving his skills, first getting certified as a Boat Captain and then obtaining his Divemaster certification. Lotu has many years of diving experience at Sau Bay Resort & Spa and specifically on the Rainbow Reef. After he becomes a certified PADI Instructor, Lotu will continue to enhance our guest experience at Sau Bay Resort & Spa.
Supporting our Sustainability Initiative
Sau Bay Resort & Spa is committed to conservation. As a Green Star facility, we are always looking to improve the environment and improving our standing as an eco resort. As a PADI Instructor, Lotu will teach various conservation specialties as part of PADI AWARE. In addition, for dive groups coming to our resort, Lotu will be an ambassador by giving powerpoint presentations about the diversity and marine life of not only the reefs, but also the mangroves in our bay, which are an integral part of the reef ecosystem.
